The first Galway Sea Festival takes place on the June Bank Holiday Weekend and a public information meeting will be held on Thursday 21 March at 6pm in the Meyrick Hotel, Eyre Square.

A meeting will take place to discuss the Ballyhaunis Summer Festival (which takes place over the June Bank Holiday weekend) on Wednesday, January 23, at 4pm in The Enterprise Centre, Clare Road, Ballyhaunis.

It was a week of changes at the top tables of local politics in Mayo with the election of new Cathaoirleach and mayors in the four local authorities in the county. On Monday afternoon, Fine Gael councillor Cyril Burke was elected as Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council for the coming year at the AGM of the council. After the meeting resumed, Cllr Burke was elected as Cathaoirleach and Cllr Patsy O’Brien as leas-Cathoirleach. Cllr Burke is also the Cathaoirleach of the BMW regional assembly.

Places are filling up fast for the third annual Mayo AC 5k Summer Series Run and Walk which starts next Tuesday evening, June 19 in Lough Lannagh in Castlebar at 8pm. This popular annual event which is open to all who wish to run jog or walk is limited to 300 approx. You can enter online at www.runireland.com, but it will close at noon this Saturday June 17.

Preparations for the Castlebar Music Festival 2012 are now under way with a new committee being recently formed after a series of public meetings that were held at Bar Ritz in Castlebar.
